FOL Gainesville does not allow pre-buying of items. Everything, and everybody waits on that opening morning entry that is traditionally lead by our Scottish Bag Piper!
We will follow the most current CDC guidelines at the time. We recommend masks and social distancing.. On busy days shoppers may have to wait in line until others first leave the building.
We encourage shoppers to bring your own bags and boxes for purchases.

IMPORTANT SALE RULES - ALL BUYERS MUST AGREE BEFORE ENTRY
- Doors open at 10 AM - NO early entry
- Book dealers welcome, but handheld scanners are ONLY allowed from 10 AM – 12 PM on July 23.
- The monitored Holding Area is MANDATORY once a buyer accumulates more than an armload of books. Staff will oversee this area, and books will be labeled with the buyer’s name.
- No hoarding or blocking shelves. Buyers must not interfere with others’ ability to browse.
- Absolutely NO sliding books, boxes, or bags across the floor.
- Failure to comply with these rules may result in removal from the sale.

This is a well-organized sale with all items sorted into categories. Our books are stored on shelves (not in boxes) in our 4,000 square-foot shopping area and are categorized into fiction, non-fiction, sci-fi/horror, teen literature and childrens'. Fiction is alphabetized by author. Non-fiction is categorized by subject.
The DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, and sheet music are also sorted into categories.
With over 30,000 items for sale spread across all three floors of the library, there's something for everyone!
Inventory is always fresh since the last sale.
Signs are located inside the library indicating where the various items are located.
Cash, check, or credit card (on sales of $10 or more) accepted.
To alleviate crowding during the busiest hours of the sale, and to provide a safe and pleasant experience to all our shoppers, pleae be mindful of the following guidelines:
- No wheeled vehicles permitted other than occupied strollers, wheelchairs, or book sale-owned bins and carts.
- No large bags or boxes will be permitted in the aisles and no bags, boxes, or books on the floor.
- On Saturday, there is a designated holding area for large bags and boxes. During the sale, there are shelves in the basement to store selected items that can no longer be carried by hand. Please note that these areas are for items selected for purchase, not sorting areas..ITEMS TAKEN TO THE HOLDING AREAS ARE CONSIDERED PURCHASED AND YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THEM.

We pull some books for selling online during the year. During the sales, we close most of the online selling and bring those books back to the Big Sales at a discounted price.Sale ALSO includes some higher value items that can't be sold online!
In some areas, including Charly's Corner, scanners or any other electronic price checking tools are not allowed.
A book off the table is considered SOLD. Shoppers may not take a pile elsewhere to 'review' before deciding.
We reserve the right to limit quantities.
For safety's sake, and the sanity of our volunteers, if book stacks are piling up, we may require patrons to checkout and take those books to their cars then come back to shop some more.
